A tablet provides a great mobile tool. The larger screen allows for better visibility than a smartphone. When you’re using any mobile devices in a rough workspace—like a warehouse, plant, or in the field—drops, kicks, tumbles, dirt, dust, and even water inevitably attack your devices. But it’s ok to get tough with your tablet. Avalon Integration wants you to experience Zebra’s L10 Series choices in rugged tablets to see what you should expect from industrial-grade quality.

Zebras Rugged Tablet L10 Lineup

Last year, Zebra acquired a complete Rugged Tablet Library with a complete portfolio of purpose-built enterprise devices. The move represented a seamless fit, as Zebra Rugged Tablets has earned a reputation for intuitive, ultra-rugged devices that are engineered for unrelenting performance—which also describes the Zebra product line. As a long-standing Zebra Premier Partner, we were excited with the news that we now have even more solutions for our customers!

Let’s take a look at the L10 product platform, which offers a unique array of time-tested powerhouse tablets: the XPAD L10, XBOOK L10, and XSLATE L10.

3 Choices: The Same Security, Safety, and Smarts

Each tablet in the Zebra L10 Series meets the tough MIL-STD 810G and features IP65 sealing, which protects against dirt, dust, and moisture. All three models easily passed a 6-foot drop test. C1D2 certification, which allows a device to be used in potentially hazardous settings, is pending.

The XSLATE, XPAD, and XBOOK also share a critical security feature. The removable SSD allows each user to protect their data. The integrated fingerprint scanner and smart card/CAC reader options add another layer of protection that’s important for any mobile device.

The L10 Series is engineered with 8th generation Intel Core processors and 4G LTE to deliver rapid-fire performance—up to 600% faster download and 300% faster upload speeds than previous models. Also Coming soon the L10 has received 3rd party certification that it is C1D2.

The integrated View Anywhere display provides easy viewing in any condition—like bright sunlight. The View Anywhere display also has the option of adding auto-sensing glove/wet touch technology, and an active digitizer.

As companies constantly search for technology to give them an edge, mobile computing has advanced throughout the organization, connecting workforce members with each other and with their precious data. Valued for their computing ability, connectivity, and portability, Enterprise Tablets are being adopted more and more by modern workforces. Easing this adoption: tablets enjoy a high level of acceptance and familiarity by workers – from field sales to warehouse workers, to office personnel.

There is a huge upside for operations if familiarity and acceptance can be leveraged into efficiency gains. But, until recently, the business has had to wrestle with a trade-off – Beauty or the Beast.

BEAUTY
Zebra Tablet Front Screen

Elegant, user-friendly, and accessible, consumer-grade devices that are a favorite among workers are natural to help drive productivity gains. But consumer-grade devices have a poor track record standing up to commercial/ industrial demands. Everything from drops to battery life issues, to extreme environments, erode the productivity gains.

On the other hand, armoring all that computing and communication capability in a rugged (and heavy) military-grade shell creates a cumbersome and fatiguing experience that throughout a standard workday is a liability to worker wellbeing and a drag on productivity.

BEST OF BOTH with Enterprise Tablets
Best of Both Enterprise Tablets

Happily, the new generation of rugged tablets gives businesses the best of both worlds. Bringing high-level computing, enterprise reliability, toughness, and security together in a lighter weight package that’s easy to use and less fatiguing. The new devices are at home in any environment – warehouse, manufacturing, field, and office.

Modern, rugged tablets check a lot of boxes for the enterprise. They offer the computing power of laptops, communications and data capture, rugged versatility, military-level resistance to shock, and other hazards like dust or moisture – all while going anywhere workers go.

They can be mounted on forklifts, trucks, cars, or taken in hand. They’re accurate up close and at long range, in varied and variable light conditions.

Workers can instantly decode scanned data or retrieve information from a centralized database, a desktop or other source. Anyone, anywhere, can obtain real-time information, any time, to keep things going and make well-informed decisions. Business realizes improved communication and streamlined operations.

Talk to us, Avalon Integration, about how to empower your mobile workforce with today’s modern Enterprise Tablets to get big gains in productivity and customer service.

There’s no doubt we rely on smartphones for a variety of computing tasks. The phone is likely one of the lesser used functions. As smartphones became more convenient and functional, they drifted into the workplace. Then came tablets, and workers appreciated the increased landscape of the larger screen, without the unwieldy size of a laptop. With enterprise-grade tablets, workers could access enterprise systems for updates and communicate across the network with more ease than ever before.

Yet, in demanding conditions, like a warehouse or manufacturing facility, consumer devices just don’t last. Drop that tablet on the concrete floor and it’s either headed for repair or replacement—which means downtime and cost. You might also be compromising your data security by using a consumer-grade tablet or limiting the computing power.

The Zebra ET50/ET55 enterprise tablet is designed to handle all of these functions with ease and reliability. With the sleek design of a consumer tablet, the ET50/ET55 is unquestionably rugged. The IP65 sealing protects it from even a heavy spray from a hose.

The result is more streamlined and effective device management, security, Wi-Fi performance, and application access. You can do more, better.

As mobile devices become more capable, sometimes business owners think that using consumer-grade devices is a great way to save money while still increasing workforce productivity with a mobile solution. In many cases, however, using consumer-grade devices ends up costing more than an enterprise-grade device. This, in turn, leaves the business vulnerable to risks of additional downtime, increased errors, security issues and sub-optimal productivity. Here’s why.

Enterprise Devices Focus on Durability

There’s a reason people put their mobile devices in protective cases the instant they buy them. Consumer-grade mobile devices are inherently fragile, subject to shattered screens and damage from moisture, dust and other contaminants. They are designed for personal use, not a fast-paced, industrial (and often dusty) warehouse, distribution center or manufacturing plant.

Enterprise-grade devices are designed to stand up to the rigors of these environments. Industrial mobile computers, barcode scanning devices and rugged tablets can withstand falls onto concrete floors, and are sealed to withstand moisture, dust and temperature extremes that would destroy a consumer device in no time.

The cost of replacing broken consumer devices, not to mention the lost productivity, will quickly outweigh the upfront cost of purchasing a more rugged device that can stand up to your environment.

Network Flexibility

The Wi-Fi components in most consumer devices are good, but enterprise-grade devices are much better. They are designed to stay connected in motion even in areas with tall shelves, high ceilings, and high concentrations of metal or corrugated materials —two substances known to wreak havoc with Wi‑Fi signals.

Better connectivity and fewer dropped signals ensures that your transactions go through more predictably and information is easily accessible to your workers. Increased productivity and reduced investment in costly network equipment and repeaters are benefits of working with enterprise-grade devices.

Reliability

Devices best suited for fast-paced environments were designed to accommodate long work shifts with battery life to match—and in some cases, exceed—with multi-bay charging cradles and user-swappable batteries. They are also designed to be used by multiple users, so they can have many logins to help with transaction audit trails and accountability.

Device Management

Many enterprise-grade devices come with device management solutions pre‑installed for enhanced security. Remote management lets you:

  • diagnose failures or reset devices remotely
  • wipe sensitive data from lost or stolen devices
  • easily add VPN software
  • incorporate two-factor authentication
  • install other security features that are a hassle on consumer-oriented devices

Equipment Longevity

Strange to say, but consumer-grade devices are designed for a short life cycle. The consumer device industry thrives on frequent replacements, knowing that most consumers will not keep their devices more than a year or two. Enterprise-grade devices are designed for longevity and durability. They can take hard use over a longer life span than consumer devices are expected to endure, because the manufacturers know that a business is depending on the equipment. Heavy-duty usage is considered and expected during the design phase, so most devices are engineered to ensure that the equipment stays in service longer and offers excellent ROI.

A Wider Range of Accessories

Consumer-grade devices rarely need to work with high-quality scanning devices such as ring scanners or long-range scanners necessary to ensure productivity in a commercial environment. Commercial-grade touch screens will have higher conductivity so they can be used with gloves or stand up to drops and bumps or even extreme temperatures.

Don’t sell your business short by choosing consumer-grade devices to manage your business. Enterprise-grade devices are a much better investment and will improve productivity and reliability.
